A birthing plan, also known as a birth plan or birth preference document, is a written outline that expresses an expectant parents wishes and preferences for their childbirth experience. It is a way to communicate your desires to your healthcare providers and the medical team who will be assisting with your labor and delivery. While a birthing  plan is not a legally binding document, it serves as a guide to your healthcare team to understand and respect your preferences at childbirth. 

It's important to discuss your birthing plan with your provider or midwife to ensure your preferences align with the practices of the birthing facility and that everyone is on the same page. Flexibility is key, as childbirth can be unpredictable, and medical decision might have to be made in the moment for both you and your baby.
